My
name is Patricia Walsh. I have been sewing since my teens. When I
was expecting my first child, eighteen years ago, I became interested
in smocking and french handsewing. In 1987 I began constructing smock
and wear garments for Denham Designs. In 1990 Kathryn Denham discovered
she had terminal cancer. She was 38 years old. Denham Designs was
split into two companies and thus Meredith's Closet was born. I employ
a number of seamstresses and smockers and still sew certain things
myself. I send trunk shows around the country where people can try
various sizes and styles on their children. They can then purchase
directly from the show or order whatever they choose. Some will smock
themselves and some will order the garments smocked.
I use mostly
100% cotten; Pimas from England, Liberty of London prints, Swiss
Batiste, and Feather Wale Corduroy. I also carry Imperial Broadcloth,
and Batiste for those of you who prefer a poly-cotton blend.
I use french
seams, mother of pearl buttons, tatting, fine french laces, and
swiss eyelet trims.
I do Christening
dresses, flower girl dresses, school and church dresses, infant
burial gowns, and boys outfits as well. I can sew to accomodate
your handicapped child as well.
I use Little
Memories and Maggies Classics Patterns with permission.
As I assemble
more photos we will be adding them to give you more ideas.
In case you
were wondering who "Meredith" is, Meredith is my older
daughter. The business basically started from me filling her closet
with this type of clothing. Hence, "Meredith's Closet."
Meredith is now 18, and is a senior in High School. She is the one
that has designed this webpage. She has been accepted to the Savannah
College of Art and Design (SCAD) for the fall of 2000.
